Newcastle is truly a hub of talent, especially when it comes to weddings! If you're looking for a unique wedding experience in the Newcastle/Hunter Valley area, you'll be amazed by the options available. Recently, I had the pleasure of collaborating with some exceptionally gifted individuals at the Owens Collective Wedding-styled shoot.

Located in Islington, NSW, the Owens Collective stands out as a distinctive commercial and warehouse space. With its recent sustainable renovations, this warehouse offers an industrial atmosphere and a versatile canvas to work with. Its inner-city location and a limited number of previous ceremonies make it a remarkable choice for those seeking a one-of-a-kind venue. It was the perfect setting for our mid-century modern styled shoot.

The objective of this shoot was to break away from current trends and explore new avenues of styling. Julia, the talented mind behind Vintage Peacock Hire & Events, played a crucial role in formulating the theme and finalising the overall look. Our aim was to embrace the vibrant vibes of the 70s while steering clear of the typical boho style that had been done countless times before. We wanted to infuse the concept with colours, patterns, and textures to create something truly unique. Witnessing the concept come to life was absolutely fantastic. Julia's incredible skill in bringing all the elements together was evident, even going so far as to source and re-upholster furniture to achieve perfection.

We kicked off our styled shoot in Newcastle with the lovely Paige, who had her hair and makeup done. Mandy from Ivory State created a stunning glamorous look for Paige, complete with a bold red lip. Alicia from Alicia's Personal Hair Design fashioned an effortless updo, framing Paige's face with loose curls. Melissa Waite Couture, renowned for crafting exceptional wedding dresses and custom designs, provided two exquisite gowns for our shoot. Paige's husband, Luke, also joined us and was impeccably styled by the fantastic team at Rundle Tailoring.

One of the key vendors responsible for bringing our vision to life was Krystal from Petal Bang. Krystal crafted a breathtaking floor nest piece for the ceremony space within the Owens Collective. Additionally, she created a mesmerizing hanging installation and a stunning wedding bouquet. What made the floor nest truly remarkable was its versatility—each component could be disassembled and repurposed for other areas. This concept is ideal for couples who wish to maximize the use of their floral arrangements.

Authenticity was a priority for our styled shoot, and this is where Monty from Holymatrimonty played a vital role as the celebrant. Monty effortlessly ensured that Paige and Luke felt at ease, creating a relaxed atmosphere and capturing genuine moments. Following the "ceremony," we indulged in a delectable grazing platter and cut the masterpiece wedding cake crafted by Celeste from Butter Bakery. The cake, with its three tiers, was truly a work of art. Lish from Ink & Snow, an incredibly talented sign painter, hand-painted the wedding and cake display signage, while Julia provided biodegradable confetti in charming confetti cones.

After capturing some remarkable shots indoors, we ventured outside to the laneway adjacent to the Owens Collective. The laneway featured a striking black-and-white mural along the wall, providing a perfect backdrop for photographing the confetti being thrown in the air. Paige and Luke then changed into their second outfits from Rundle Tailoring and Melissa Waite Couture.

We spent the following hour exploring Islington, capturing kisses against vibrant graffiti and dancing in picturesque alleyways. Later, we made our way to Carrington, where we were blessed with a breathtaking sunset, casting the most enchanting light as we strolled through the open streets of this industrial suburb. Our day concluded with beaming smiles and tired feet from all the dancing and laughter.

The Owens Collective truly stands out as a unique and versatile Newcastle wedding venue. Its proximity to bars and restaurants, coupled with the captivating photography options it offers, makes this venue exceptionally special. I loved the opportunity to capture absolute magic within these walls, and the result was nothing short of extraordinary.
