Hannah & Kyle - Newcastle Flower Market Wedding
Ceremony magic among the flowers at Sandgate
Organising a wedding in the middle of a global pandemic… should be easy, right? Well, that’s the challenge that thousands of couples across Australia, including Hannah & Kyle, faced when the world turned upside down. Theirs was a story of resilience, adaptability, and love that wouldn’t be dampened by the chaos that the pandemic brought. Like so many others, Hannah & Kyle had to navigate the uncertainties, with plans rescheduled and hopes on hold. Yet, they met these challenges with grace and optimism, and not even the looming threat of rain could damper their spirits on their special day.
I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful, laid-back couple, along with their adorable daughter Billie, a few months prior during their engagement and family shoot. We spent a delightful afternoon exploring Newcastle, chasing the golden light, and trying to keep up with their lively toddler. The session was a whirlwind of laughter and connection, the kind that makes you feel like you're catching up with old friends after being apart for too long. As we wandered through the city’s charming streets, I knew that their wedding day was going to be just as fun, relaxed, and full of love.
When it came time to choose a venue for their elopement wedding, Hannah & Kyle couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot than the Newcastle Food and Flower Market. This hidden gem, known for its vibrant displays of fresh flowers and local produce, had only recently begun offering its greenhouse as an elopement venue. The lush greenery and rustic charm of the market provided a breathtaking backdrop for their intimate ceremony, creating a serene and picturesque setting that felt both natural and effortlessly romantic.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Hannah & Kyle exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony that perfectly captured the essence of their relationship—simple, meaningful, and full of joy. Little Billie, with her infectious energy and sweet smile, naturally stole the show, adding an extra layer of warmth and happiness to the occasion. The love between this little family was palpable, and it was clear that this day was as much a celebration of their union as it was of the family they had already created.
After the ceremony, the Newcastle Food and Flower Market continued to serve as a stunning location for their couple portraits. The greenhouse, with its abundance of greenery and soft natural light, provided the ideal backdrop for capturing Hannah and Kyle's love and connection. We then ventured around the market and its surrounding areas for bridal party photos, each spot offering a unique setting that reflected the couple’s relaxed and down-to-earth vibe.
As the sun began to set, the celebration continued at the Stag and Hunter in Mayfield, a local pub known for its welcoming atmosphere and great food. Here, Hannah & Kyle, along with their loved ones, enjoyed a laid-back reception filled with laughter, good conversation, and a few well-deserved drinks. The evening was a perfect reflection of the couple’s personalities—simple, yet deeply meaningful, with an emphasis on the people who mattered most to them.
Hannah & Kyle’s wedding day was a testament to the idea that even in the face of unprecedented challenges, love finds a way. They wanted a day that was true to who they are—free of fuss, full of heart, and focused on what truly matters. And in every way, they delivered. It was an absolute honour to be their photographer, to capture the moments that made their day so special, and to witness the beautiful union of this family.
Thank you, Hannah & Kyle, for allowing me to be a part of your journey. Your wedding day was a reminder that, even in uncertain times, love remains the one thing we can always count on. Here’s to your future together, full of love, laughter, and endless adventures!
Planning a Wedding or Elopement During a Pandemic: A Simple Guide
Planning a wedding is always a challenge, but doing it during a pandemic adds an extra layer of complexity. However, love finds a way! Here’s a quick guide to help you plan your special day with ease.
1. Be Flexible
Things can change quickly, so be ready to adapt. Whether it’s adjusting your guest list or changing venues, staying flexible will help you manage the unexpected.
2. Keep Safety First
Prioritize the health of your guests. Follow local guidelines, provide masks and hand sanitizers, and consider outdoor spaces to ensure everyone feels comfortable.
3. Go Intimate
Smaller weddings can be just as meaningful. Focus on what matters most to you, whether it’s a heartfelt ceremony or a cozy dinner with loved ones.
4. Choose the Right Venue
Look for venues that offer versatility, like outdoor spaces or places that can easily adapt to changes in guidelines. A flexible venue means less stress for you.
5. Communicate with Vendors
Stay in touch with your vendors. Make sure they’re aware of your plans and any changes that might occur. Good communication helps everything run smoothly.
6. Consider Virtual Options
Can’t have everyone there in person? Live stream your ceremony so loved ones can still be part of your day, no matter where they are.
7. Stay True to You
This is your day, so make it your own. Whether it’s a simple elopement or a small, meaningful ceremony, focus on what makes you happy.
8. Embrace the Positives
Smaller weddings can mean more meaningful moments and less stress. Enjoy the unique aspects of your pandemic wedding—it’ll be a day to remember!
Planning a wedding during a pandemic isn’t easy, but with a little flexibility and creativity, your day will be just as special as you’ve always imagined.
